Family Portraits
(We don't pose...we play!)
We've been photographing families in North Carolina for 4 years now and in Washington for many years before that. So we know there's no way we're going to get your active 1st grader to sit pretty and smile at the camera for an hour. How boring! Instead, we play! We run across the field, we sneak up on mom and dad, we strike a super hero pose, we cuddle up close, or we sit and make daisy chains. Whatever it is you would do on a normal day out at the park or in your home, we do during our portrait session. You might even think there's no way we created any portraits, but don't worry. We're quick, and we know what to look for! You just have fun and let us handle the rest.

The Process: We know you're busy balancing multiple work and school schedules every single day. Because of that, our family portrait session process is uniquely designed to save you time while still giving you all the tools to make your portrait session a successful and fun experience. An important part of the planning process is deciding where to go for your portraits. We like to select locations that you already love.  Before the camera even comes out, we'll have a good idea what we're trying to create and how you'd like that artwork displayed in your home. Because of that, we can work quickly and we can stop when the little ones decide they're done instead of dragging out the session on a short fuse. To read more about how we make this possible, please read about our ESP Portrait Experience

Investment: Portrait sessions require a $200 retainer upon booking. Pricing for our custom wall art and custom designed albums will vary depending on what fits best with your style as well as the designated space in your home. However, many of our clients spend an average of $850 on their custom designed pieces, and we have items ranging from $250 to $2,500 each. We do not (and will never) have a minimum purchase requirement. Please know, we don't like surprises in pricing, so we make every effort to answer all of your questions before we even schedule a time for your portrait session. By the end of your planning consultation, you should have a very clear idea what it will cost for the items in which you are interested.

"I can't thank Eastern Sky Photography-NC enough for our beautiful pictures! She was very professional, yet fun. My kids loved her! She made our experience fun and painless. That is hard when you have 2 boys (one tired who just woke up and one that has to much energy)! I am so in love with our pictures. If you are looking for someone to take Amazing photos, you WANT EASTERN SKY PHOTOGRAPHY-NC!!"

Family Session Details

How it Works:

  • BEFORE: I'll help you figure out what to wear, where to go, and what fun ideas we might try at your session. We'll also talk about how you'd like to display your portraits once the session is over. Then, we schedule a time to meet at a park, your house, or somewhere out and about for about an hour or so.
  • DURING: With little ones, it will feel like a play date. More fun than formal. We'll get a variety of portraits including the whole family, siblings together, mom and dad together, mom with the kids and dad with the kids. Each relationship you have is different, so you should have a portrait by which to remember it!
  • AFTER: Within 2 weeks after your session, we'll schedule a time to meet so you can see your portraits and make your final decision on what finished products you would like for us to create. A couple weeks later, everything will arrive at your home ready to display.

Types of Sessions:

We photograph a variety of family sessions for families with children elementary school age and younger. With any of our sessions, the whole family is invited to participate, even if the occasion is a newborn brother or sister. Here are a few ideas:

  • Maternity
  • Newborn
  • Baby's 1st year
  • General Family Session
  • Family Reunion
  • Tween Stars (like senior portraits but for tweens)
